Week 2 of the NFL preseason is here with the battle of Los Angeles on Saturday night and my Rams vs. Chargers predictions expect it to be a low-scoring game with both teams sitting their starters in this one.
Find out more in my NFL picks for Saturday, August 17.
Rams vs Chargers prediction
My best betUnder 33.5 (-110 at BetMGM)
My analysis
NFL preseason games are typically lower-scoring and this one should be no different. The Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers combined for just 16 points in their preseason openers and neither will have too many offensive weapons playing in this one.
Rams quarterback Stetson Bennett is getting his second straight preseason start after throwing for 224 yards with one tou…
Newcastle are leading the race to sign Leicester’s Harvey Barnes, who is a target for Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham.
Eddie Howe wants a new left-winger and one could arrive if he sells Allan Saint-Maximin, who is the subject of interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League. Newcastle have strengthened in midfield by signing Sandro Tonali from Milan and Howe’s next priority is to bolster his attacking options. Barnes is expected to leave Leicester after their relegation.

Creativity on the cheap, a towering South American centre-forward and an experienced Premier League goalkeeper as back-up. David Moyes may recognise Everton’s recent transfer window because it was almost identical to one he oversaw in 2011, when money was tight and the club were reliant on good coaching to close a considerable gap to the leading pack. Ten years and at least half a billion pounds later, Everton are back in familiar territory.

No Everton manager has spent less than Rafael Benítez in a summer window since Moyes recruited Royston Drenthe on loan from Real Madrid, big Denis Stracqualursi on loan from Tigre in Argentina and Marcus…
Jürgen Klopp has said he is not angry with the Liverpool owner, Fenway Sports Group, about the club’s resources in the transfer market, despite being unable to afford Borussia Dortmund’s midfielder Jude Bellingham as part of a rebuild.
Liverpool go into Monday night’s trip to Leeds amid a comparatively poor season after finishing second to Manchester City by a point in 2021-22. The club are used to fighting for trophies under Klopp but have fallen short in every competition, leading the manager to plot a busy summer in the transfer market.

Mark Bullingham has insisted that appointing Thomas Tuchel as England’s head coach should not raise alarm bells about the Football Association’s development of homegrown managers.
Bullingham, the FA’s chief executive, and John McDermott, the technical director, have faced criticism after ending their hunt for Gareth Southgate’s successor by putting a foreigner in charge of the men’s senior team for the third time. Those opposed to hiring Tuchel have raised concerns over what it says about the production line at St George’s Park.
The FA has emphasised that Anthony Barry – an “internationally renowned” English coach – has been appointed as the German’s assistant. Even so, the lack of English ma…
Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis is ready to rock and wants all the smoke with the defending NBA Champion, Denver Nuggets, and their MVP Nikola Jokić. Davis also claims to have a goal of playing 82 games this season. Neither of those things are likely to end well for the eight-time All-Star. “It was just a lot of talking. We get it, y’all won, but me and Bron had some conversations… we can’t wait.” After all the talking LeBron James and other Lakers did a few years ago after winning their bubble championship, Davis is over the Nuggets talking, and celebrating their title victory. Quite frankly, there isn’t much he can do besides besting Joker and crew on the court when it counts. Opening night, Oct. 24, sounds like there will be lots of jawing and trash talk back…
Some people are fans of the Detroit Lions. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the Detroit Lions. This 2017 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read all the previews so far here. Your team: Detroit Lions. Butthole is always on the menu. Only NFC team to never go to the Super Bowl, folks. Your 2016 record: 9-7. The best part was when they started 9-4 and then EVERYONE looked at the remaining schedule (Giants, Cowboys, Packers) and instinctively knew they were gonna lose out and blow the division to a Packers team that was two games behind with three games left. And so they did. Most predictable Lions thing to ever happen. They also lost to Tennessee in a game where they had three touchdowns called back by penalties. That is the SECOND most predicta…
Some people are fans of the New York Jets. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the New York Jets. This 2014 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group.
Your team: New York Jets.
Your 2013 record: 8-8, with a point differential of -97, just one point better than the 4-12 Browns. In other words, when luck is on their side, 8-8 is the best the Jets can do. The most heartwarming part of last season was when the team publicly decided to not fire the coach, even though that coach got an extension that isn't guaranteed past this season, which means he's still a lame duck, which means the Jets are in the exact same spot they were a year ago.
Your coach: Rex Ryan, who is terminally incapable of hiring a decent offensive coordinator (Marty Mornhinweg is…
